This May, we’re welcoming ceramic artist Annie of Ula Ceramics into our store for a series of artists open house weekends.
Running from Saturday 2nd to Sunday 24th May, the collaboration brings together a thoughtful, intuitive approach to making.
Annie is a Brighton-based artist working primarily with ceramics. With a background in mixed media fine art, her practice has developed through an ongoing exploration of materials and form.
Her work is led by intuition and a sensitivity to the natural world. Through handbuilding techniques, she creates sculptural vessels called bodyscapes that explore movement, femininity and our connection to nature. Alongside these, she produces functional pieces, finished with soft, organic glazes.
Annie’s work will showcase, placed in conversation with our clothing and accessories already in the space.
When glazing the pieces, Annie drew directly from the tones found throughout the store, soft, warm, natural colours that shape its calm and welcoming atmosphere. The glazes echo this palette, allowing the ceramics to sit naturally within the space and connect with the surrounding textiles.
This collaboration felt intuitive, with shared values between Annie’s approach to making and the ethos of Woven store. Her practice centres on creating objects that are functional, while carrying warmth, presence and a clear sense of craftsmanship. Working with Woven Store offered an opportunity to respond to an environment where those values are already present.
The result is a collection of ceramics that feel at home in the space. Practical pieces for daily use, each with a quiet individuality. An exploration of how handmade objects can sit within an interior, while remaining rooted in functionality and beautiful natural materials.
Her pieces bring a sense of rhythm and tactility. Subtle, imperfect, and entirely hand formed, they invite a slower way of looking and living with objects.
An opportunity to spend time with the work, and to experience the space a little differently.
