From my own experience we generally tend to get less use from our high summer clothing due to the climate here in the UK, instead getting more repeat wear from past summer buys.
Of course this does mean that we can make our seasonal garments work hard for us each year; something we strongly believe in.
That said, it is always nice to buy a few well chosen items to fill gaps or lift our existing selection. There are certain items that will need replacing such as good T-shirt or vest styles which are always good to identify in the Spring so you can start looking for what you actually need well in advance to ensure you get your size.
Then there is the holiday situation which in my opinion is actually quite easy…a tight capsule edit featuring a few great Tees/vests, a couple of shirts or a tunic, some lightweight trousers & shorts and one or two dresses/kaftans, as well as your swimwear. I always make sure I have a large summer wrap that can be used for the beach, as a cover up or a skirt. I tend to take a small bag and then a fold up large cloth tote of some sort. These clothes I tend to dig out of the wardrobe each holiday and perhaps buy one new item that will update the whole edit, often favouring a bit of tie dye for that summer vibe. Remember that most light fabrics will dry quickly if you need to give them a rinse whilst away.
If you keep your underpinning of your summer wardrobe fairly neutral then you can just add a sprinkling of colour to suit your mood that year, whether it be a scarf, a tee or a shirt…this makes getting dressed easy as everything will go together.
Finally, a good spring/summer jacket is an absolute must for your holiday as it will finish off any outfit as well as giving you an extra layer.
It’s so important to feel like you’re dressing for yourself but to also feel appropriate.
Don’t forget your sunnies!
