We always love an Aequamente delivery at woven. There is something about the simplicity of their pieces that makes them so easy to wear, but look a little more considered at the same time.
For autumn/winter we’ve chosen four new shirts, all made from 100% cotton and produced in Italy, with each one having its own little point of difference.
Shirts are one of those wardrobe staples that we find ourselves wearing all year round. They work beautifully as a layer while the weather is still mild, then tucked under a favourite knit or jacket as the temperature drops. We love pieces that can do this, working hard in your wardrobe rather than being something that is only worn for one season.
First up is the Frill Collar Shirt, which we have in both White, Chalk and Visone. It has a slightly neater shape through the body, making it a good choice if you prefer a little more definition on the top half. The small frill detail around the collar and hem gives it a feminine touch without feeling too sweet, while the slightly wrinkled cotton adds some lovely texture.
We particularly like the raw finish at the cuffs. It’s these small details that give Aequamente clothes their character and stop a simple cotton shirt from feeling too ordinary. The White feels wonderfully fresh and classic, while Chalk has a softer, warmer quality that we think will be particularly lovely as we move into autumn.
For something with a more relaxed feel, there’s the Cotton Pocket Shirt in Black. This has a lovely workwear influence with its two slanted front pockets, but the simple shape keeps it feeling very easy and wearable. It’s a pull-on style with a buttoned neck and collar, finished with raw detailing through the sleeves.
We can see this one becoming a real everyday favourite. Worn loose with wide trousers, tucked into a skirt or layered open over a simple tee, it’s one of those pieces that doesn’t need too much thought. The black cotton also gives it that slightly more substantial autumn feeling, while still being light enough for layering.
Then there’s the Classic Cotton Shirt in Amarena / Wine. We do love a good shirt and, although the shape of this one is classic, the colour gives it something a little different.
The rich plum tone works beautifully with a neutral wardrobe and is an easy way of introducing a little colour into autumn dressing without stepping too far outside your comfort zone. It has a tiny collar, button front and cuffed sleeves, with a raw finish to the hem that gives the clean shape a slightly more relaxed feel.
There’s a lovely balance across the styles. The Frill Collar Shirt brings a little softness, the Pocket Shirt has that relaxed utility feel, while the Classic Shirt keeps things simple with a beautiful hit of colour.
And this is really what we love about Aequamente. The designs are uncomplicated but never boring. It’s the fabric, the texture, the proportions and those small finishing details that make you want to wear them.
They also fit very naturally into the way we like to dress at woven. Nothing too tidy, nothing too trend-led. Just good clothes that can be mixed with the pieces already in your wardrobe and worn in lots of different ways.
As the days get cooler, we’ll be layering these under jackets and chunky knits, wearing them with wide trousers and skirts and generally making the most of that extra layer that a good shirt gives you.
